hausync vs OurHome: an alternative for shared houses
Updated
Short answer
The OurHome most lists mention is a family app from Cape Horizon (chores with targets and prizes for kids, a shared shopping list, a calendar and messages); when we checked in October 2026 it looked discontinued, with no update we could find since 2020. OurHome by Elusios is a separate, newer iPhone app. hausync is for adults sharing a house: rotating chores, private bill splitting, lists, laundry, chat and a calendar.
Disclosure: hausync is our app. OurHome comes up in almost every list of chore apps, so it's worth knowing two things before you compare it with anything: which OurHome people mean, and whether you can still get it.
Which OurHome?
The OurHome most articles describe is a family organizer from Cape Horizon Pty. Ltd., listed as "OurHome - chores and rewards." Its listing described planning household jobs, giving kids prizes and targets, tracking each person's progress, a shared shopping list, a family calendar, and messages and reminders, for free with no ads.
When we checked in October 2026, that app looked discontinued: its last App Store update we could find was version 3.14.4 in October 2020, it was no longer listed in at least one country's App Store, an App Store search didn't return it, and its website didn't load. We can't confirm its status in every store, so check before you plan around it.
There's also a newer, unrelated iPhone app called OurHome by Elusios. Its App Store listing describes shopping lists organized by store and category, tasks grouped by room and assigned to roommates with deadlines and repeats, a built-in calendar, and a paid Premium upgrade. It is a different product from a different developer.
What families liked about the original
The original OurHome was built around kids: parents plan the jobs, set targets, and offer prizes for getting them done. That's a parenting tool as much as a chore app, and it's the main reason people still search for it. hausync isn't a replacement for that part. It's for adults who share a house.

When something other than hausync is the better pick
- You're a family managing kids' chores and allowance. A family chore app with points and parent controls fits better. hausync has no points, rewards, or parent approval.
- You only need a shared shopping list and room-by-room tasks on iPhone. A lighter app such as OurHome by Elusios may be all you need.
- You need a native app from the App Store or Google Play.
When hausync is the better pick
- You're adults sharing a rental. Roommates need clear turns rather than rewards, and the money matters as much as the chores. hausync keeps each expense visible only to the people in it, with a balance between each pair of housemates and a Pay button that opens their Venmo, PayPal, Cash App, or Zelle.
- You were using OurHome and need somewhere to go. The lists, calendar, chores, and messages map across directly. You can recreate chores in a few minutes, and quick-start presets add common home-upkeep chores and list templates in one tap.
- The house is big. Floors and units are optional. Each floor gets its own channel and quiet hours, and lists, chores, and tickets can belong to one floor. See hausync for multi-unit houses.
What hausync doesn't do
- No points, rewards, allowance, or kid accounts.
- No importing from OurHome or any other app.
- No native app store app; it runs in the browser and installs to your home screen.
- No free plan. Every house gets 14 days free, then one subscription per house.
- It doesn't move money; it tracks who owes who.
