Terms of service
Last updated 2026-10-15
hausync is an app for household chat, lists, chores, expenses, laundry, a calendar, and maintenance tickets. Every new house gets a 14-day free trial; after that, the house owner pays a subscription for the whole house (see section 7). Housemates never pay. Anyone can create a house; housemates join by invitation. By creating an account you agree to these terms. hausync tracks who owes who but never moves money. The service is provided as is, and these terms are governed by the laws of the State of Washington.
1. Agreement and who "we" are
These terms are an agreement between you and the operator of hausync ("we," "us," or "our"). By creating an account or using hausync, you agree to these terms and to our Privacy policy. If you do not agree, do not use the service.
2. What the service is
hausync is one app for your house. Anyone can create a house and becomes its owner; housemates join only through an invite link, code, or QR from that house. It includes:
- Group chat, updated in real time: a house channel and per-floor channels open to everyone in the house, custom groups visible only to their members, and direct messages visible only to the two people in them
- Shared lists: shopping, to-do, and custom lists, live-updated for the whole house
- Chores: recurring chores with automatic round-robin assignment, landing on the calendar
- Expenses: equal, exact, or share splits, visible only to the people in each expense, with balances kept between pairs of people and money kept outside the app
- A house calendar with day, week, and month views, events, and per-floor quiet hours
- Laundry: a label per machine, free / in use / done status, and a notice when a cycle ends
- Maintenance tickets: a status board with priority, assignment, and comments
- Reminders at the time each member chooses, in-app and by web push when a member turns it on
- An installable app you can add to your home screen
3. Account rules
Each account is for one person. You must be at least 13 years old to create an account. You are responsible for keeping your password safe and for what happens under your account. Invite codes are for your house: share them only with people you want in your house.
4. Acceptable use
You agree not to use hausync to post unlawful content, to harass or impersonate anyone, to scrape or automate access to the service, or to attempt to access a house you have not been invited to. We may suspend an account that breaks these rules.
5. Your content
What you post in hausync stays yours. You grant us only the licence we need to store it and show it to your house. You are responsible for what you post.
6. Money and expenses
hausync tracks who owes who and suggests how to settle up, but it never moves money and is not a party to any debt between housemates. You and your housemates still pay each other however you normally do.
7. Plans, free trial and billing
Every new house gets a 14-day free trial; no card is needed to start it. After the trial, the house owner can subscribe for the whole house. Prices are per house and depend on its size: $4 a month or $30 a year for a house of one person, $8 a month or $60 a year for 2 to 6 people, $12 a month or $90 a year for 7 to 12, and $16 a month or $120 a year for 13 or more. Housemates never pay. An owner with more than one house pays for each house separately. Housemates added by name without an account count toward the house's size.
Automatic renewal. A subscription renews automatically every month or year, at the price for the house's size, and is charged to the card the owner gave Stripe, our payment processor, until it is cancelled. If a house moves into a different size band, the new price applies from the next renewal; we never charge part of a period for a size change.
Cancelling. The owner can cancel at any time under More → Plan & billing → Manage subscription. Cancelling stops future renewals; the house keeps its plan until the end of the period already paid. We don't refund partial periods unless the law requires it.
If the trial ends or a subscription stops. The house becomes read-only: everyone can still see everything, settle up, and manage their account, and nothing is deleted. Subscribing again unlocks the house.
Price changes. We will tell owners at least 30 days before a price change takes effect on their next renewal.
8. No warranty
hausync is provided "as is," without warranties of any kind, express or implied.
9. Limitation of liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law, our total liability to you is limited to the amount you paid us for hausync in the 12 months before the claim.
10. Suspension and termination
We may suspend an account that breaks these terms. We may stop the service with reasonable notice. You can end your account at any time; see the Privacy policy for what deletion does.
11. Disputes and governing law
Before filing a claim, we will try to resolve a dispute informally for 30 days after written notice. These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Washington, and any dispute is subject to the courts of the State of Washington.
12. Other terms
Severability. If a court finds part of these terms unenforceable, the rest stays in effect.
Entire agreement. These terms and the Privacy policy make up the whole agreement between us about hausync.
Changes. If we change these terms, we update the "Last updated" date above and show a notice in the app. Continuing to use hausync after that means you accept the change.
