Privacy policy

hausync is built for one household at a time; anyone can create a house, and housemates join by invitation. We do not sell or share your data for advertising, we do not run analytics or third-party trackers, and the only cookie we set keeps you signed in. Housemates in your house can see the content you share with them: house and floor channels are open to the whole house, groups to their members, direct messages only to the two people in them. Nobody outside your house can, except us, to run the service.
1. Who this policy covers
In this policy, "we," "us," and "our" mean the operator of hausync. This policy applies to everyone who creates a hausync account.
2. Age requirement
You must be at least 13 years old to use hausync. The service is not directed at children under 13. If we learn that we collected information from someone under 13, we delete it.
3. What we collect
To run your account, we store your name, email address, and a password hash (we use argon2id; we never store your plaintext password). We keep a record of each sign-in session: the session itself, the browser's user agent string, and timestamps. We do not store your IP address with a session.
If a house subscribes, payments are handled by Stripe, Inc. The house owner enters their card on Stripe's own page; we never see or store card numbers. We store the Stripe customer and subscription identifiers, the plan, and its renewal date. Stripe's privacy policy covers what Stripe collects.
To run your house, we store everything members enter: chat messages, shared lists, chores, expenses and settlements, calendar events and quiet-hours settings, maintenance tickets and comments, and the activity feed those actions create. We also store your display name and colour, your reminder preferences, your web-push subscription endpoint and keys if you turn on push reminders, and the invite codes your house creates.
If you add a housemate by name before they have an account, we store the name you enter and a private link code for them. Anyone holding that link can see what that housemate owes and is owed in the house, their upcoming chore turns, and the house agreement, and nothing else. The link stops working when they claim the spot or are removed from the house.
If you upload photos (to a maintenance ticket, a move-in or move-out check, or your belongings list), we store a resized copy of the image and when it was uploaded. Before storing it we remove everything your camera added to the file, such as the time and place it was taken and the device model; we don't keep the original. Photos on a ticket are visible to whoever can see the ticket; move-in and move-out checks and your belongings list, including their photos, are visible only to you. Your lease details and bills are stored the same way as the rest of your house's content: lease details are visible to your house, and a bill only to the people in it.
4. Who can see your data
Other members of your house can see the content you share in that house, and can see each member's display name. The house owner and admins manage who is a member. Nobody outside your house can see your house's content, except us, to run the service. We use hosting and network providers to carry traffic between your device and hausync; they do not receive your data for their own use.
5. Cookies and tracking
hausync has no ads, and we do not sell or share your data for advertising. We do not run analytics and we do not use third-party trackers. We set one cookie, hausync_session, which is strictly necessary to keep you signed in. It expires after 30 days, or immediately when you log out. Because we do not track you, we do not respond differently to a browser's Do Not Track signal.
6. How long we keep data, and deletion
We keep your account and house data for as long as your account exists. You can delete your account yourself from More → Delete account. Deleting your account removes your name and email and deletes your sessions and push subscriptions. Content you already shared with a house, such as messages or expenses other members' balances depend on, stays in the house attributed to "Deleted member." If you leave a house instead of deleting your account, shared content you left behind stays attributed to a former member. If you delete a house you solely own, the house and all its content are removed, including uploaded photos.
7. Changes to this policy
If we change this policy, we update the "Last updated" date above and show a notice in the app. Continuing to use hausync after that means you accept the change.
8. Governing law
This policy is governed by the laws of the State of Washington, and any dispute is subject to the venue described in the Terms.
